What are Wellbands?

Wellbands are a new kind of hospital wristband.

Better design from the ground up

Imagine if you could take away the uncomfortable fit of a wristband by being able to custom fit the strap to the exact size of your wrist.  With Wellbands you can. A newly designed comfort clip makes this possible – doing away with the need to have any holes preset into the strap.

Oh, and there is also finally a solution to deal with that flappy bit of strap that you are always left with. With Wellbands there is no need for scissors – the tearaway technology is built right in, creating the perfect sized strap to fit.

How about dealing with all those small, fiddly bits of paper that you have to insert into your plastic hospital ID wristband? Consider it done.  Wellbands allows you to print straight onto the band, in full colour.  Finally – you can get the right sized text that is easy for all hospital staff to read, and you can make your band any colour you want.

Want to customize your wristband so it is uniquely you? Wellbands has a graphics template that you can use to upload your design for printing. Choose from hundreds of designs or make your own. It’s a way of creating a keepsake of your hospital visit – and inspiration to help you get better.

Introducing a hi-tech wearable that makes sense

It’s been a journey of four long years to identify the technology that is needed to drive Wellbands.  Using a combination of proprietary technology that works like Bluetooth Smart, combined with passive RFID, makes Wellbands a powerful hi-tech wristband suitable for hospitals.

And with this base technology, Wellbands can support all of the following functions - real time recording of medical treatment and drug administration; locating capability to connect with friends and family; a navigation aid (when paired with the Wellbands smartphone app) to find your way around the hospital; secure keyless entry where only you can access your bedside cabinet; an on-wrist wallet for cashless payments at hospital vending machines, the pharmacy or hospital cafe; a meal ordering identifier; and – of course – a better hospital identification wristband that authenticates who you are, any allergies you have, and what treatment you need.

Wellbands are also equipped with optional alert systems – so you can ensure you get regular checks pre-treatment, post-treatment and for effective pain management.  You can also opt in for meal ordering, receiving notifications when clinicians are doing their rounds, and a range of other hospital-based services.

Wellbands don’t monitor your pulse, blood pressure or provide a fall alert. However, the OmniTokens designed to partner with Wellbands can do these things. Wellbands don’t need to be equipped with this technology – because most patients don't need this kind of monitoring all the time.  And if you do, an OmniToken is the solution for you.

Security and safety matters

Wellbands will record and aggregate your data in order to provide you with the best possible care. All files are encrypted, and, because this is your personal health data, it cannot be shared without your authorization.

You can opt out of the location services at any time – but this will mean that friends and family will not be able to find you easily.  Similarly, you can opt out of other services provided as part of the Wellbands package, but your medical provider may ask that you allow a base packet of data to be collected to support your care.

You are entitled to ask to view your medical records, and Wellbands aims to make this as easy for you as possible. By logging into the app, you can securely view the information stored from your current visit, along with any of your prior visits that were recorded and stored in the Wellbands system and logged with your unique identifier.

Wellbands is designed to improve the hospital experience for everyone. And with making this step forward in better design and technology, together we can change healthcare forever.
